Abstract

This study concerns the Lualaba reach of the Congo River in its Kindu part. It aims to inventory the fish fauna and determine the fish populations of this part of the river. The ichthyofauna was sampled monthly from December 2017 to June 2018, using artisanal fishing in areas of rapid and normal flow of water. Fish populations were studied using population descriptors (species richness and diversity indices) and statistical analysis. 23 species of fish, divided into 12 genera and 10 families, have been identified. The family members of Claratoidae (Auchenoglanis occidentalis and Chrysichthys nigrodigitatus) are most represented and those of Schilbedae and Mochokidae (species Schilbe sp and Synodontis acanthomias) are the least represented.
