Abstract

A literature review of the epidemiology of AAT in west of DRC was conducted. Regarding the trypanosomes, studies have shown the absence of trypanosomes in N’Dama catle at Kolo in Central Kongo, but at Mushie in Mayi Ndombe, trypanosomes have been demonstrated in N’Dama cattle, with prevalence of T. vivax, followed by T. congolense and T. brucei brucei; in pigs of Kinshasa, T. simiae, T. vivax, T. congolense and to a lesser extent, T. brucei brucei and T. brucei gambiense have been identified; in Central Kongo, T. congolense, T. vivax and T. brucei brucei were isolated in goats of Kimpika, Kasangulu, Kimpungi and Sanda; and T. congolense Savannah, T. congolense Forest, T. brucei and T. vivax in Glosina palpalis palpalis to Kimpese. In term of tsetse flies, the authors identified G. tabaniformis and G. fuscipes at Mushie in Mayi Ndombe and at Idiofa in Kwilu, G. fuscipes quanzensis has been made evident in Kinshasa; G. palpalis palpalis was caught to Nomgwa, Kamba, Kimpese and Kolo in Central Kongo. A national progam against the AAT must be implemented to achieve control this disease to avoid economic losses to livestock producers.
