Abstract
We hand thinned and applied four chemicals (4,6-Dinitro-ortho-cresole or DNOC, Naphthaleneacetamide or NAAm, Naphthaleneacetic acid or NAA, and 1-naphthyl N-methyl carbamate or Carbaryl) to 2 apple cultivars "Golden Smoothee" and "Ozark Gold". Thinning improved fruit size des pite its negative effect on yield. The best results regarding the overall effect ofthinning (yield and fruit size) were given by the combination of chemicals used in sequence namely NAAm (50 ppm) + NAA (10 ppm) and NAAm (50 ppm) + Carbaryl (700 ppm).
