Abstract

Aromatic and medicinal plants (AMP) as natural resources constitute an important pillar of the (rural) economy of our country. The objective of this study is to inventory the main forest-related PAMs in the Rabat-Salé-Kénitra region through a documentary analysis and field observations. The results show that the region is characterized by forest richness covering 27% of its area, of which 18.5% is natural forests. The AMP inventoried are 173 species belonging to 52 families with the most important being the Lamiaceae, Asteraceae and Fabaceae. Plants of medicinal interest represent 79.2% of the plants inventoried. Awareness of the importance of AMP in the daily life of the population of the region through their therapeutic virtues and their contribution to the economy could lead to their protection and conservation.
